The Keys to a Successful Personal Training Business in 2023

All businesses are made up of three components, operations, marketing, and finance, for Personal Trainers this equates to -

(O) Operations – Programming

(M) Marketing – Branding, Blogs, social media, and Adverts

(F) Finances – Collections, payments, profit and investment

To be successful in 2023 the key will be to be able to define your product, have plentiful content for your social media, adverts, local marketing, and be organised enough to track and manage your finances.

My goal is to help you do this by producing several articles that address how to build an maintain a successful OMF.

It is already January 2nd and so the urgency will be to get your message out to the public and so my focus is on how to build marketing content.

Content creation is about finding out what is important to you, by avoiding cliché and mining what you think and what you do. The first step on the way to this is to start writing or dictating your thoughts daily, this is called a free write.

The key to free writing is to just write anything, and keep writing, fill blanks by writing errm, um, but keep going, don’t edit, or judge, and spend at least 10 minutes on this each day. FASTER do this a minimum of weekly without FSQUAD and Digital Presenter group to make sure we avoid cliché and have a rich vein of content.

Once you have your thoughts on paper (or on word, or recorded as a voice, you get the gist), then the next stage is to look for key points that are important to you. Try to stay away from cliché, and instead look for information you keep repeating where the topic means a lot to you and is desirable for your client.

The third step is to take the theme of the topic and start to riff and improvise. We have a system for this which is too comprehensive for a blog, however I am happy to share some things to help.

Write down notes on your topic using the following,

-       Improvisation (yes and…)

-       Write what you wish was true about the topic

-       Write what the science says about the topic

-       Write what you think the client wishes was true about the topic

-       Write the opposites to all the above

-       Write how a client can solve the issue

-       Write how hiring you can solve the issue

The information from the above will give you a load of ideas on how to build content for your social media.

Now we go back to writing, I suggest you use a story spine to start writing your content which means you do the following –

  1. Once upon a time there was a character called... (character)
  2. Who every day... (daily routine)
  3. Until one day... (event that disrupts the routine)
  4. Because of that... (consequence)
  5. Because of that... (consequence)
  6. Because of that... (consequence)
  7. And as a result... (resolution)

Although this seems like a pain, the result is that you will have many ways of structuring this theme across images, videos, posts, and blog posts.

Now you can start to build content, I suggest you start with a long form rambling blog post and then edit it down to a decent read.  From that, try and summarise the remaining blog post as several statements, images, one statement and maybe even a video story (some of you could get some miles out of TikTok with this approach).

In future posts I will share with you how to build and structure different posts and blogs however I think a lot of you will be able to do that already for Personal Training, just based on the information you have above.  The future topics will include the importance of MAYA, 5-point structure, defining your visuals, sounds, audience, posting times etc.

Should you want to practice a free write or you want to get to this information quicker and in more depth, then pop a message to the company WhatsApp below asking, and I will invite you to sit in on one of our calls.
