Who should become a Personal Trainer?
Important Stages of becoming a Successful Personal Trainer
Whoever you choose to train with, and we really hope it is us, then you need to know how to be successful.
Get Qualified
You need a qualification to prove that you have fulfilled the minimum in duty of care for your client. The course will need to be CIMSPA recognised if you want to use it to get a job in the UK
Decide on where you want to work
Personal Training is about creating your own business, whether you are employed or not. Finding a location and then securing a place in that gym, or clients in your area requires planning and an experienced mentor. Don't get drawn in by the guaranteed interview promised, there is a shortage of Personal Trainers and so it is more important to find what is right for you.
Plan to stand out
Get used to updating your certifications and continuing education if you want to be successful as a Personal Trainer. Building specific routes to your ideal set of clients, income and position in the industry is something we help with, as you become experienced and learn what you want to do.
Plan to protect your mental health
Personal Training can be lonely, so having a mentor that is always open to chat even after the courses, is vital, having a genuine community of peers to chat to as well helps too.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I study?
Our courses are taught online through pre-written material, audio and video files. We also teach using zoom, WhatsApp, text, and Facetime. This means you can study anywhere.
How do I study and what do you use to teach?
We use a mixture of ebooks, videos, audio files and live coaching to teach the course. If you struggle with learning and exams then we are an excellent choice of course, because we look after you in a 1-1 environment, where we can deliver bespoke lectures and coaching to help you understand the content. Our goal is to make you proud of the personal trainer you have become, and we do this whatever it takes.
How long will it take and is there a time limit?
To pass the course we have to submit a portfolio of evidence to our awarding body. This portfolio can take from 6 weeks (incredibly fast), to 12 weeks (about average), to as long as you need to get it complete and submitted.
Do I have to do exams?
No. We use Focus Awards as our awarding body which means that the courses are all course work and no exams. This is a choice that we support and embrace as it means you get to demonstrate your knowledge on all of the content, with a focus on building your knowledge, not trying to prove it is lacking.
Are there any additional costs?
No, we do not charge for resits, exams or anything else that is required to pass the course.
What support do I get?
You get a 1-1 tutor, who will have been in the industry and successful for a minimum of 5 years. Each student will be taught or overseen at the least by our founder John Hardy MSc, who will be available to chat to whenever you need to book in and chat! We use zoom 1-1, community through the website, direct questions through the ebooks, audio files, videos and everything else we can to help you learn. We also connect you with other students who can help with career questions etc
Who are the courses accredited with?
FASTER is a CIMSPA registered company that puts its OfQual courses through Focus Awards or Active IQ. The CPD courses are either through or going through CIMSPA for accreditation.
How will I get a job / start my career?
We take your career and success very seriously, so expect zooms and calls with John to help you get connected to the right jobs, or places to start your career. Also all of our become a PT courses come with our Fitness Business Accelerator Course which is built to help you find your voice and business strategy. Each task in that course is marked individually with feedback through the website or 1-1 on a zoom call.
Do you help students to start their own business?
John will work 1-1 with you when you get qualified, to help you to build your business. Using the trainers who have come through the FASTER process and have successful businesses including trainers who rent space, have their own studio, run their business from gyms and run bootcamps, we will have example and people to help you. Also you will be connected through our Fitness Business Acceleration group with trainers from up and down the country who can help.
How qualified are your teachers?
Primarily our tutor is also our founder, John Hardy. John has a degree in sports coaching, a masters degree in sports science, and most of the fitness qualifications in the US and UK! He has worked all the jobs in the industry, from fitness instructor through to club owner. When his team do teach this level, they have to have had at least 5 years as a successful Personal Trainer, as well as all the relevant qualifications.
Do you offer payment plans?
We offer our own payment plans which work as split invoices. Also we have an option to use Klarna and Clearpay. If you are on your phone you can use Apple Pay and Google too.
What are those red mats that are all over the website?
Sssshhhh! we call them hubs not mats, and these are the training tool exclusively for FASTER trainers. It is like having your own personal gym floor where ever you go. The design allows you to build complicated exercises for a client, and make it easy for them to perform. Also they attract attention so they help Personal Trainers get more clients. If you sign up to the package with the Hub Club in it, then you get access to the live courses on the hub, old and new, whenever we run them live in the UK, without you having to pay again.
