Our students mean everything to us, and we want every one of them to be able to learn here, whatever they use to read, hear or move around a page. This page says what we build to, what we have measured, what is not right yet, and how to reach a person when something is in your way.

What we build to

We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, across the public site, the learning pages, PT Manager and the websites trainers build with us. Level AAA is our goal where it can be reached, and the first AAA work, a high-contrast display option, is in design now.

What works

  • Every page declares its language and has one main heading, a main content landmark and a "Skip to content" link as the first thing the keyboard reaches.
  • Every image carries a text alternative and every form box a label.
  • Keyboard focus is visible on every control, as a thick yellow outline.
  • Pages reflow to a 320-pixel-wide screen (400% zoom on a laptop) with nothing scrolling sideways, and work at 200% browser zoom.
  • Text and controls meet the AA contrast levels, measured page by page.
  • A trainer's own website built in PT Manager is measured to the same standard in all three looks.

How we check

Every build of the site is run through an automated accessibility engine (axe-core) over the public pages, a student's pages, PT Manager and a trainer's website, at laptop and phone widths and in the zoomed and magnified states. Automated checks find about half of what a person finds, so we also walk the site with a screen reader (VoiceOver) and we act on what you tell us.

What does not conform yet

  • Level AAA contrast (7:1) is not met on body text in the FASTER red, and on some yellow highlights. A high-contrast display option that meets it is being designed, and will sit in the footer of every page.
  • Text-only scaling (changing the text size without zooming the page) does not yet enlarge most text, because sizes are set in pixels. Browser zoom works. Moving the type to scalable units is on the list.
  • Lesson videos recorded by tutors do not all carry captions yet; the tutor guide asks for them and we are adding them course by course.
  • The 3D anatomy models in some lessons are visual by nature; the lesson text beside each one teaches the same point in words.

Tell us

If anything on this site is in your way, or you need a lesson, a certificate or a document in another form, tell John directly and he will sort it with you: WhatsApp John, or email john@fasterfunction.com. We aim to reply within one working day.

Enforcement

If you are not happy with how we respond, the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) handles complaints about the Equality Act 2010 in Great Britain.

This statement is reviewed whenever the site is measured again, and at least every three months.
