PT Manager's Movement Screen Reads Joint Angles Off The Analyser And Fills The Radar Wheel For You

In short: Today's first post covered the three fuels in the Level 3 nutrition unit, and today's second covered how Motor Skill Application Specialist describes a moving bone with six descriptions from twelve options. PT Manager's Movement screen is the tool that puts measured joints on a page. It reads joint angles from the analyser, turns each into a 0 to 10 score on a plain linear scale, and drops them on a radar wheel, with some items scored by eye. The scores are coaching estimates from a phone camera, and the trainer can adjust any of them on the wheel. PT Manager opens the moment you sign up with FASTER, and adding real clients unlocks once you pass a course.

From numbers to something a client can read

A trainer who measures a joint angle ends up with a number. A client who is handed a list of numbers nods politely and learns very little.

Today's first post covered the three fuels in the Level 3 nutrition unit, and the second covered how Motor Skill Application Specialist describes a bone moving. This post is about the PT Manager tool that takes measured joints and makes them something a client can look at.

What the Movement screen is

PT Manager's Movement screen reads joint angles off the analyser. Each angle becomes a score from 0 to 10, and the scores land on a radar wheel. No hand scoring and no spreadsheet.

The maths is plain. Each item has a low end and a high end, and the score runs in a straight line between them. Some angles score higher when they are bigger, and for others a smaller angle is the better result, such as a deeper squat having a smaller knee angle. The same line handles both. A few items are scored out of 10 by eye, for things a camera cannot read.

The lower-body screen, for example, looks at squat depth, ankle range, hip closing at the bottom and how upright the trunk stays, with single-leg control scored by eye.

What the scores are, and are not

They are coaching estimates from a phone camera. They are not clinical cut-offs, and PT Manager does not present them as such. The trainer can adjust any score on the wheel afterwards, because the trainer is the one who watched the client move.

Where it helps in a session

  • A first session. Measure, read the wheel, and show the client a shape that belongs to them.
  • A retest. Run the same screen again and the wheel shows the change over time.
  • A client who likes a picture. The shape does the explaining, and the trainer's words sit beside it.

It follows on from the bone-describing skill in today's second post. Bones are the landmarks, the analyser reads them, and the wheel is the picture of what it read.

The access model

PT Manager opens the moment you sign up with FASTER, so you can explore and set it up in your own name straight away. Adding real clients unlocks when you pass a course. There are two routes in. New to the industry, the Certified Personal Trainer course (Level 2 and 3) brings PT Manager in from the start of a career. Already qualified, the Movement Trainer course or anything above brings you in without repeating Level 2 and 3.

It is free, and nobody takes a cut of your sessions. A trainer's skills should stay the trainer's.
